Intro to AI Basics for Fiction Writers

Learn the Basics of Writing with AI

Go From AI Newbie to AI Confident Using the Next Generation of Publishing Tools

3 Stages of Comprehensive Lessons Designed to be Understandable & Actionable

With 2 hours of video lessons, accompanying notes, and cheat sheets, we’ve broken down all the concepts you need to be up-and-running with AI for your next fiction or writing project.

There is no fluff here as we dive right into the fundamental concepts you need to know in order to write with AI. Even though we will dive into some technical topics, our instructors will break them down into manageable and easily understandable chunks.

And we use practical examples for authors every step of the way. Because we’re not just here to learn AI, we’re here to use AI.

Every lesson includes video lessons and over-the-shoulder walkthroughs, downloadable notes, transcripts, plus more!

101 - Tokens, Playgrounds, & Prompts

In this section, we’ll dive into the basic foundational concepts about Large Language Models (LLMs). We look at the basic unit of text processing in AI, tokens, and how text is broken down into these tokens for AI to understand and generate language. We’ll also examine hyperparameters, such as temperature, top P, top K, presence penalty, and frequency penalty to find out how they can affect the output you get from the LLM.

102 - Models & Applications

Here we’ll build on the basics introduced in the 101 class. We’ll examine the difference between several AI models, contextual usage, prompt engineering, and practical applications for various writing styles and needs. We’ll showcase the different ways plotters, pantsers, gardeners, and architects can incorporate AI into their process. We’ll cover book blurbs, social media posts, and other content with an emphasis on choosing the right AI model based on the task.

103 - Content Policies & NSFW

This portion of the class looks at licensing, content policies, and accessing unfiltered models to write not safe for work (NSFW) content. We cover the ethical and legal considerations of using AI in the creative process and the importance of adhering to the content policies set out by companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic. We then look at OpenRouter, a platform that hosts multiple different open source and unfiltered models that can be used to write NSFW content, and how to evaluate which model will work best for you.
